Hand colored wood engraving by Beltrand, Dete and Florian after the painting by Auguste Lepere (1849 - 1918). Published in “Le Monde Illustre, Paris, ca. 1890.
This oversized panorama of the Holy City is a superb general view. Lepere was noted for his excellent rendering architecture.
General age toning. Engraving has several vertical folds to fit book size. Very nice condition!

A very decorative general view of the Holy City. Center point and focus of this engraving is the mosque Qubbat as-sachra, also known as Mosque of Omar. It is one of the main sacred buildings of Islam.
In front of wall there is a wide-spread cemetery almost clear across engraving.
Underneath image and title description of main buildings and archeological sites.
Very light general age toning. With the exception of minor, insignificant creases in margins in very good condition!
